check out my new tumblr blog dedicated to showcasing the many cultures and styles of muslim women. several of the pics so far are ones i was posting this weekend, but there are also some others in there, and i will keep updating. enjoy. :)

Muslim women are everywhere, from all cultures, in all countries. i wanted to show us in all our colors, styles, everywhere we are. there is so much misunderstanding, so much hatred out there against muslims, and women get the bulk of it because as hijabis and niqabis we stand out and are easy to spot. so with this blog, i want to just show all the different everyday styles and that we are everywhere, part of your society.

[don’t forget the non-hijabis and non-niqabis, please — they’re part of ‘all our colors and styles,’ too =) just that they may not be as ‘visibly muslim.’ -yasmine]

sorry yaz, i’m not interested in the non-hijabis and non-niqabis. not to be flippant, but they choose to “fit in” and not be visible. they choose to not represent islam. they DON’T get harrassed, hated on, threatened as muslim women. i know that hijab is a choice that is difficult for some women, i recognize that. but maybe this blog will show them that there are a lot of women who wear it anyway, despite the fear, despite the hate, who aren’t ashamed of being muslim.

WW2WM - I think that’s pretty messed up of you. IF it is a tumblr showing all types of muslim women, that SHOULD include women who don’t wear hijab or niqab. They are still muslim. Many are modest and cover everything except their hair or face. You have no idea about the reasons why a muslim woman chooses not to wear hijab. And, if the purpose is to show muslim women representing islam, many a non-hijabi have given dawah and positive representation of Islam to their colleagues, students, coworkers.

and if you want to just show hijabis & niqabis, then you should call your blog what it is. Muslim Women Who Cover, Every day Everywhere. Put the qualifier in the title, if you’re going to put it on your content.
